Hotel design - Inspired by seashell
Al Dakhira - Qatar
Year: 2024

The Fan Seashell Hotel is conceived as a sculptural landmark, an extension of the cultural identity of Qatar. Set in the desert landscape of Al Dhakira, the project draws inspiration from the fan seashells, wind-sculpted dunes and the country's relationship with the sea. The influences are reflected in the lines, the organic volumes, the relationship with the landscape.

The seashell was chosen because of its symbolic connection to Qatar's maritime history. Fishing and pearl diving were vital

to local communities, and so the architecture took on cultural importance. From above, the hotel looks like bits of overlapping shells rising from the desert, its elongated composition following the land as if sculpted by wind and sand.

Sweeping walls rise, curve, fold and fall to ground. The rhythm reminds of shell ridges and desert dunes. The white and sand

colored surfaces respond to the daylight, creating shadows and reflecting gold tones at sunset. Curved walkways, protected entrances, landscaped courtyards, terraces and arched openings guide guests through spaces that frame desert views and build the relationship between architecture, nature, heritage and place.
